Description
Product Description
The no overtaking sign diagram 632 prohibits overtaking on a length of road where double white lines can’t be or are not used. The restriction of overtaking should usually be done through the use of double white lines where possible, and this sign should not be used where double white lines are already in use.
You may need a no passing sign in situations where:
- The road is less than 6.1m wide, making double white lines impracticable.
- Double white lines are not usable because of stopping restrictions.
- Road works have temporarily restricted overtaking.
- Ice or snow drifts have made the road too dangerous.
At the start of the affected area, it is recommended that the sign is supplemented with a 'distance for' sign. In cases where the diagram is used for ice or snowdrifts, it should be plated ‘Ice’, Ice for’ and a distance, ‘Snowdrifts’ or ‘Snowdrifts’ and a distance. You may use signs on both sides of the road if you think it is necessary, but there is no specific requirement to do so unless an unrestricted side road joins the restricted road. In this case, signs and plates should be erected within 50m either side of the junction. Full-size repeaters at intervals of around 400m should be used if a 'For' distance plate is not used at the beginning. End plates are recommended when the restriction is finished.
